Speedway Becomes Latest to Go on Hiring Spree

ENON, Ohio — Speedway LLC is reaching out to the communities it serves in search of new employees. The retailer wants to hire more than 500 employees in the North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia markets.

With recent benefit changes, Speedway will primarily focus on hiring full-time and part-time customer service representatives as well as full-time store leadership positions. Full-time employees are eligible for coverage through medical, dental, and vision plans upon enrollment.

Employees also receive a company match 401k program of 117 percent of the first 6 percent of employee contributions. These contributions are eligible immediately for all new hires upon enrollment. In addition, employees are paid weekly and vest immediately, according to the company.

A variety of field positions are available, including customer service representatives, who primarily serve customers, and foodservice specialists, who help maintain food and beverage programs. Speedway is also seeking to fill many entry-level leadership positions, including shift leader trainees and co-manager trainees.

Speedway will hold job fairs in the North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia markets on June 16.

Enon-based Speedway's network includes approximately 2,770 stores located in 22 states. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Marathon Petroleum Corp.

Speedway is the latest convenience retailer to boost its employee count. In early May, Sheetz Inc. outlined plans to hire more than 8,000 employees companywide. With the initiative the Altoona-based company hopes to increase its total employee count and full-time positions by creating and filling jobs at its convenience stores throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina, as CSNews Online previously reported.

In March, Wawa Inc. began its own hiring spree to add more than 5,000 new associates over a three-month period. The Pennsylvania-based c-store chain hosted open houses at more than 100 select stores in a bid to bring on new employees for the busy summer season as well those who might be interested in the start of a fulfilling career at Wawa.
