Speedway, NCR Team for Next Step in Omnichannel Strategy
ENON, Ohio — Speedway LLC selected NCR Corp.'s OPTIC pay-at-the-pump terminals for its automated fuel dispensers at its 2,770 convenience stores in 22 states.
According to NCR, its forecourt solution provides an open software platform so that Speedway can take the next step in its omnichannel strategy.
“We are a customer-focused organization and as such, we are always looking for ways to add speed and simplicity for consumers, whether they are fueling, eating or shopping in our stores,” said Tony Kenney, president, Speedway. “NCR’s OPTIC solution allows us to continue to provide exceptional service for our valued customers.”
NCR OPTIC is a modular, self-service solution that comes in its standard configuration EMV-ready with a touchscreen, contactless reader (including mobile phones), 2D barcode scanner and magnetic stripe reader. NCR offers OPTIC in two sizes, a smaller 5-inch terminal for use with older dispensers, and a 12-inch widescreen.
EMV is an acronym for Europay, MasterCard and Visa, the three companies that originally created the security standard. On Oct. 1, 2017, c-store retailers will need to upgrade their automated fuel dispensers to be EMV ready, or face the risk of being held financially responsible when fraud occurs involving EMV-ready chip-and-signature cards presented at the pump for payment.
NCR’s open-source solution allows Speedway to further enhance its shopper experience, including via its Speedway Rewards loyalty program, the company stated.
“Speedway is a leader in the convenience store industry,” said Michael Bayer, president, NCR Retail. “Extending the relationship with Speedway and providing our latest pay-at-the-pump solutions, opens the door to more innovation. Our focus is to help customers, such as Speedway, build more efficient, profitable and connected businesses.”
Duluth, Ga.-based NCR Corp.’s software, hardware and portfolio of services enables more than 550 million daily transactions across many industries, including retail.
Enon-based Speedway LLC is the country’s second-largest company-owned and –operated convenience store chain. It is a division of Marathon Petroleum Corp.
