Spinx App Goes Extra Mile on Loyalty, Payment
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Customers returning to work after the Labor Day holiday in the Southeast will have a new option when visiting any of The Spinx Co.’s stores. The operator of 69 convenience stores in North Carolina and South Carolina will launch its Spinx Xtras mobile app on Sept. 3.
The app, available for free in Apple’s App Store and Android’s Google Play, allows consumers to manage their Spinx Xtras loyalty card by earning gas discount rewards, redeeming gas discount rewards at the pump and paying for their purchases at the store via mobile payment. Customers can receive a 5-cent-per-gallon discount when using Xtras to pay for their fuel purchase.
Spinx is the first c-store retailer to offer a mobile app that combines a loyalty program with a method of payment option, according to the retailer.
"We wanted to offer our customers an easy way to manage and maintain their Xtras rewards, " said Steve Spinks, CEO and president of The Spinx Co. "This app eliminates the necessity of carrying another physical card. It also provides customers with a secure and simple way to make purchases at Spinx, we well as easy access to their Xtras rewards balance."
On the payment side, Spinx teamed up with the National Payment Card Association, which will process payment transactions via the Federal Reserve’s Automated Clearing House network. To make a payment, consumers must link their Xtras card to their bank account, thereby creating an electronic check.
"It was very important for us to provide our customers with a heavily secured payment processing platform," said Stan Storti, executive vice president and chief financial officer for The Spinx Co. "We want to offer our customers the best value in the safest manner."
Also, in June, Greenville, S.C.-based Spinx began deploying NCR Corp.’s ConvenienceGo (C-Go) mobile shopping technology at 57 of its stores. C-Go is a mobile shopping application (app) that allows shoppers to initiate a fuel transaction, select the amount of gas they want and pay with their smartphones. In Spinx's case, the app will be customized to match the chain's brand image, colors and unique guidelines, according to NCR.
