Spinx Site Adds Piedmont Natural Gas Station

ANDERSON, S.C. — The Spinx Co. will add a Piedmont Natural Gas compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling station at its convenience store here.

Piedmont will lease space at the Spinx store located at the corner of Pearman Dairy Road and West Whitner Street in Anderson in order to install the necessary CNG refueling equipment and compressors. Piedmont will own and maintain the site's CNG facilities, which will be open to the public for use by commercial fleets and individual vehicles.

"We are pleased to partner with Piedmont Natural Gas in order to offer CNG to our commercial fleet and individual customers," said Spinx CEO Steve Spinks. "The use of CNG as a transportation fuel is growing as is the refueling infrastructure that supports that growth. We believe this project fits very well with our own vision and mission to make people's lives easier and to provide quality services and products. We are looking forward to working with Piedmont on this exciting project."

Compressed natural gas is touted to be locally produced, more environmentally friendly and cheaper at the pump compared to traditional gasoline.

The new station will be Piedmont's 11th public CNG refueling station in the Carolinas and in Tennessee, and its third public CNG station in South Carolina.

"We are very pleased to be working with such a fine company as The Spinx Co. to place a public CNG refueling facility at one of their stores in Anderson," said Karl W. Newlin, senior vice president and chief financial officer for Charlotte, N.C.-based Piedmont. "This is an important milestone for us as we continue to extend the base of our public CNG refueling stations along the important Interstate 85 corridor in North and South Carolina."

Greenville, S.C.-based The Spinx Co. operates more than 70 convenience stores in North Carolina and South Carolina.
