Spinx Takes EV Charging Stations to Next Level
GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Spinx Co. is upgrading to Level 3 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at seven of its South Carolina convenience stores. These new chargers have the ability to charge an EV in less than 30 minutes.
Spinx first installed Level 1 and Level 2 EV charging stations at five locations in 2011. The c-store retailer said it wanted to upgrade to Level 3 chargers due to more EVs on the road, and customer demand for faster charging times.
Spinx will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony May 3 to celebrate the milestone at its 901 Maurice Drive c-store in Greenville. The event will feature a charging demonstration of a Nissan Leaf, an EV that can travel up to 100 miles before needing a charge.
Spinx’s relationship with Nissan goes beyond this demonstration. As part of Nissan’s “No Charge to Charge” program, Nissan Leaf owners receive 24 months of complimentary public charging. Spinx stressed, however, that although its initial EV charging station partnership is with Nissan, the retailer's charging stations can be used for any electric vehicle, provided the owner has his or her vehicle-specific charging port.
Greenville-based The Spinx Co. operates more than 70 c-stores throughout South Carolina.
