Starbucks to Up Prices on Select Beverages
NEW YORK – Starbucks Corp. will increase the prices of some beverages at its U.S. company-operated cafes starting June 25, according to Reuters. This marks its first price change in two years.
"Less than a third of [the] beverages will be affected by the price increases," said company spokeswoman Lisa Passe. "In most stores, the price of a Grande or Venti brewed coffee, as well as Frappuccino and Refreshers, will remain the same."
The average beverage purchase price increase will be approximately 1 percent. The most that a tall brewed coffee will increase by is 10 cents, yet some markets will not see any increase in the price of brewed coffee.
Green arabica coffee prices recently dropped to a four-year low, but coffee commodity costs make up less than 10 percent of Starbucks' overall store operating and occupancy expenses, according to Passe.
