ALBANY, N.Y. -- Schools and organizations in the greater Albany area can thank the Stewart's Shops Holiday Match program, which recently donated $202,788 to assist in the funding of various classes and programs.

"Schools and organizations need to apply so we believe these funds are needed," Amy Sweeney, spokesperson for Stewart's, told CSNews Online.

This year marked the 21st anniversary of the program that is held between Thanksgiving Day and Christmas each year. "We have been receiving a lot of positive feedback," Sweeney told CSNews Online, adding that the checks were distributed in March.

"The funds are used for programs that [for example] fill children's back packs with books and school supplies," Sweeney continued. "Funds are also used to support sports and music programs that were cut by budgets."

Among the long list of schools that will receive funds are A.W. Becker Elementary School and Achievement Academy Charter School. An equally long list of organizations include Addictions Care Center of Albany, AIDS Council of Northeast New York, Albany and Troy Lions Charitable Fund Inc.
