Stewart's Shops Recognized for Women in the Workplace Development
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Stewart’s Shops Corp. has been named recipient of the 2016 The Advancement of Women in the WERCplace Award.
Founded in 1988, the Capital District Women’s Employment and Resource Center, also known as WERC, is a not-for-profit organization that provides workforce development services to women.
Stewart’s Shops currently employs 3,500 women throughout its shops, manufacturing plant, distribution center and corporate offices. Approximately 50 percent of Stewart’s Shops’ shop managers and 85 percent of its assistant shop managers are women, the company noted.
“Stewart's Shops was honored with The Advancement of Women in the WERCplace Award for [the] company's longstanding efforts to remove barriers that keep women from achieving financial independence and success,” WERC announced on its website.
Jennifer Kercull, Plant Human Resources Manager for Stewart’s Shops, accepted the company’s award at WERC’s 12th Annual Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy, N.Y.
Saratoga Springs-based Stewart's Shops has 335 locations across upstate New York and southern Vermont.
