Stewart's Shops Supports Summer Safety Program

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Stewart's Shops is scooping up free ice cream and positive reinforcement this summer by supporting New York's Safe Summer Program for another year.

During the summer-long program, the convenience store retailer will promote kids' safety by encouraging them to wear helmets while riding bikes, scooters, rollerblades, skateboards and more. Kids who are caught wearing a helmet will receive one coupon good for a free, single-scoop ice cream cone.

"This is our 20th anniversary and we can't thank Stewart's Shops for all their support and contributions," said New York State Sen. Jim Tedisco (R-49th District). "They've been great community servants, assistants and contributors to this wonderful program to keep kids safe."

Stewarts is among several other businesses in the 49th senatorial district of the capital region, as well as law enforcement officials, providing the free ice cream cone coupons each year. Approximately 16 jurisdictions will carry the coupons.

"A lot of kids will go home and tell their parents, 'hey, mom or dad, I got a free ice cream cone because I wore my helmet,' and they'll also tell the kids in the neighborhood. So this positive reinforcement is a win-win," Tedisco added.

Saratoga Springs-based Stewart's Shops operates more than 330 convenience stores across upstate New York and southern Vermont.
