Stewart's Shops, Wawa Issue Product Recalls

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. and WAWA, Pa. — Stewart’s Shops is recalling all bags of its private-label Stewart’s Shops Sunshine Cranberry Delite after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expanded a recall by Tonawanda, N.Y.-based First Source, the manufacturer of the snack product.

The product includes sunflower kernels that are part of a national FDA recall, and have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the convenience store chain said. The recall involves all code dates of the 5-ounce bags sold at Stewart’s Shops locations.

The company advises customers to return the product to their nearest store for a full refund. Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based Stewart’s Shops said no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the recall.

Moving to the South, Wawa, Pa.-based Wawa is voluntarily recalling its Thai Style Chicken Mango Salad sold at 87 stores in Florida.

The recall comes as Orlando, Fla.-based Taylor Farms Florida voluntarily recalls a limited quantity of the salads because they have the potential of containing undeclared wheat and sesame seed allergens. The 11-ounce plastic container packaging may be mislabeled on the underside of the package with incorrect ingredient, nutrition and allergen information, Wawa said.

According to the c-store operator, “People who have sensitivity or an allergy to wheat or sesame seeds may run the risk of a serious adverse reaction if they consume these products but this ingredient does not pose any risk to members of the general population who do not have any such sensitivity or allergy.”

The salads are sold in a limited number of Wawa stores only in Florida. The recalled products include 220 units of the Wawa Thai Style Chicken Mango Salad which have a code date of "sell by 5/28/16 T.F. 5:00am 1 TFFLD 144” found on the top of the container.

Wawa said there has been no reported adverse reactions to the product. Customers who purchased the recalled product are urged to dispose of it immediately and contact Wawa for a refund, or contact Taylor Farms Florida.
