Stripes Facebook Contest Celebrates Día de los Muertos
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Stripes Convenience Stores is celebrating Día de los Muertos with a Facebook contest that asks fans to upload a picture of themselves celebrating the Mexican holiday taking place Nov. 2.
The contest launched Oct. 29 and runs through Nov. 2. Twenty-five winners will be randomly selected and announced Nov. 3 on Facebook.com/StripesStores.
Each winner will receive a Laredo Taco Co. breakfast taco and a Stripes limited-edition, 18-inch by 28-inch poster signed by emerging artist Elisa Rector, a South Texas native who specializes in Día de los Muertos art. This is Stripes' first-ever Día de los Muertos commemorative painting.
“I wanted to incorporate the iconic Stripes and Laredo Taco Co. logos in the headdress of the traditional sugar skull,” said Rector. “When I think of Stripes, I think of friendly and fun. My inspiration for this piece comes from the cultural influences from living in South Texas.”
Customers interested in participating must submit their best Día de los Muertos face painting photo through a comment on the Stripes Facebook page by Nov. 2.
“We hope our customers will enjoy her interpretation of our brands through our first Día de los Muertos poster,” said Eduardo Pereda, Stripes' marketing vice president.
Stripes operates more than 645 convenience stores in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma, of which 580-plus are under the Stripes banner and 47 are under the Sac-N-Pac banner. Restaurant service is available in more than 400 of the stores, primarily under the proprietary Laredo Taco Co. brand.
