Stripes Launches First Dia de los Muertos Promo
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Stripes Convenience Stores has partnered with Coca-Cola to launch the first-ever Dia de los Muertos commemorative cups exclusive to Stripes stores throughout Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
The commemorative cups feature two limited-edition designs that celebrate Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday observed on Nov. 2. They are available for $2.99 and include the first fill free.
Each cup was created by two emerging Texas artists: Elisa Rector, a 29-year-old South Texas native who specializes in Dia de los Muertos art, and Christian Lain, a 24-year-old professional tattoo artist who lives in Corpus Christi. Commissioned by Stripes and Coca-Cola, the artists were given creative freedom to design their own interpretation of the companies’ commemorative Dia de Los Muertos cup, while incorporating the companies’ logo on their design.
Rector drew inspiration from her South Texas roots and designed a turquoise cup with a “Dia de los Muertos” couple using acrylic paint, while Lain designed a charcoal tumbler with a traditional calavera design using watercolors and inspiration from the culture of calling South Texas his home.
Customers interested in a chance to win a 2015 limited-edition Dia de los Muertos commemorative cup can submit their best Dia de los Muertos face painting photo through a comment on the Stripes Facebook page starting Oct. 30. Winners will be chosen at random and will be announced on Nov. 2.
Corpus Christi-based Stripes operates more than 700 convenience stores in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
