Subway Aggressively Expands in C-stores
MILFORD, Conn. -- Subway hopes a lot more people will be "eating fresh" this year. The sandwich chain, a division of Doctor's Associates Inc. based here, opened 46 new locations in convenience stores throughout the continental United States from May 1 to July 31.
In the past three months alone, Subway franchisees have opened nearly 600 new locations in 48 countries, 42 U.S. states and seven Canadian provinces, bringing the total of new Subway restaurants to just over 1,200 for the year so far.
Subway reached a milestone in Oregon during its latest expansion effort, when it opened its 300th store there.
Convenience stores fall into the company’s "non-traditional development" category, in which the chain now has more than 8,000 locations in places such as airports, department stores, hospitals and park and recreational facilities around the world.
