Sunoco Makes the Call
PHILADELPHIA -- Sunoco Inc., the Philadelphia-based operator of more than 800 Aplus convenience stores, signed an agreement with GTS Prepaid Inc. (GTS), a leading provider of prepaid products and services, to supply some 500 East Coast convenience stores.
Under this agreement, GTS will provide all company-owned Sunoco locations with the ability to sell a full range of prepaid telecom products through use of GTS's EIDC point-of-sale activation (POSA) terminals. GTS products include prepaid wireless phones and wireless refill cards, wireless accessories and prepaid Internet. The terminals will feature GTS's Mexico Directo PhoneCard, a variety of wireless carriers, prepaid Internet and home dial tone.
"We recognized that to grow the category, we had to find a method of selling a variety of products, including prepaid wireless. After evaluating the alternatives we selected GTS's EIDC terminal method of going to market," said Walt Ward, national category manager for Sunoco. "The EIDC system enables us to sell a number of products with one easy to recognize card and completely eliminate inventory ? the best of both worlds.
"In addition the EIDC terminal allows us to add or change the product lineup quickly and easily."
Sunoco has also worked with GTS to develop an aggressive promotional campaign, which includes a unique display center located on dedicated front counter space, designed to promote and educate consumers about prepaid products.
GTS and Sunoco created a training manual to support each location on the use of the terminals and provide an overview of all products. The GTS Sales Building Team will also closely monitor the rollout process to remotely track usage and offer support to those locations requiring it.
Sunoco will also make the GTS prepaid program available to the company's Optima stores and offer it to Sunoco's A Plus franchisees.
