Tesco's Phoenix Fresh & Easy Opening Delayed

PHOENIX -- Tesco's U.S. Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets chain will likely not open in the metro area here until December, a company spokesman told The Arizona Republic.

Already Tesco has opened one Fresh & Easy store ahead of schedule in Hemet, Calif., and has five more locations slated to open later this week in Southern California, CSNews Online reported earlier this week. Five more Fresh & Easy stores are slated to open in Las Vegas on Nov. 14, the report stated.

Fresh & Easy stores were planned to open in Phoenix this month as well; however, it appears more likely the stores will open by the end of the year, company spokesman Brendan Wonnacott told the Republic. Previous reports stated the company was planning to open 27 stores in the area. He declined to give a date for the openings or the number of stores that will open, according to the report.

"We want our customers to see Fresh & Easy first and judge it for themselves," he told the paper.
