Tesoro Bringing ARCO Brand to Mexico
SAN ANTONIO — Tesoro Corp., which will become Andeavor on Aug. 1, is bringing the ARCO brand to Mexico in as little as 60 days.
Through a definitive agreement, the company will supply transportation fuels and bring the ARCO name to Sonora and Baja California, Mexico.
Under the terms of the agreement, Professional Fuels Solutions (ProFuels) may begin wholesale marketing operations in Mexico under the ARCO brand. The first ARCO-branded stations are expected to open within 60 days.
"We are very excited to begin operations in Mexico and to launch the ARCO brand," said Greg Goff, chairman, president and CEO of Tesoro. "This agreement furthers our strategic marketing integration and presents a tremendous opportunity to offer a high-quality fuel in a growing market."
Tesoro's wholesale marketing agreement with an affiliate of ProFuels — currently the largest operator of retail gasoline stations and a distributor of transportation fuels in northwest Mexico since 1991 — gives ProFuels the ability to market and grow the ARCO fuel brand in the region, the company said.
Tesoro plans to integrate supply to Mexico with its West Coast refining, marketing and logistics system. It also expects to expand the brand throughout Baja California and Sonora to achieve a leading market position in both states.
San Antonio-based Tesoro, soon to be Andeavor, is an independent refiner and marketer of petroleum products. Tesoro, through its subsidiaries, operates seven refineries in the western United States and has ownership in a logistics business. Its retail-marketing system includes more than 2,500 retail stations under the ARCO, Shell, Exxon, Mobil, USA Gasoline, Rebel, and Tesoro brands.
