TravelCenters Opens More LNG Fueling Super Lanes

WESTLAKE, Ohio — TravelCenters of America LLC (TA) added liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueling "super lanes" to its TA locations in Baytown, Texas, and Lafayette, La.

“We are very happy to have opened our Baytown and Lafayette LNG lanes,” said Tom O’Brien, president and CEO of TA. “All of our LNG lanes are ‘super lanes’ in that they are equipped to dispense LNG, diesel and diesel exhaust fluid. Because super lanes are integrated with existing fuel lanes, we do not interrupt truck traffic flow, or reduce available truck parking spaces."

TA is partnering with Royal Dutch Shell plc on the LNG openings.

“It is great to see LNG fuel now being offered at these two additional travel centers,” said Elen Phillips, Royal Dutch Shell’s vice president of fuels sales and marketing for North America. “LNG can be a good choice for truck owners and more are making the switch to LNG. With each new site, we are pleased to be driving the development of safe and cost-efficient LNG fueling technology.”

In addition, TravelCenters completed the retrofitting of several of its TA Truck Service and Petro:Lube facilities to bring them in line with industry standards and regulations for completing truck service and repair on both compressed natural gas (CNG) and LNG fueled trucks. The newly retrofitted locations are:

  • TA Harrisburg, Pa. #012 (Interstate 81, Exit 77)
  • TA Baytown, Texas #017 (I-10, Exit 789)
  • TA Lafayette, La. #161 (I-10, Exit 101)
  • TA San Antonio #147 (I-10, Exit 583)
  • TA Dayton, Ohio #011 (I-70, Exit 10)
  • Petro Ontario, Calif. #026 (I-10, Exit 57)

The chain now has six truck repair and maintenance facilities that perform repair and maintenance on LNG and CNG vehicles.

Westlake-based TravelCenters of America operates travel stops in 43 states and Canada under the TA and Petro Stopping Centers brands. It also operates convenience stores and gas stations primarily under the Minit Mart name.
