Two C-store Chains Among 15 Best Retail Workplaces
NATIONAL REPORT — The convenience channel ranks among the tops when it comes to retail. Notably, QuikTrip Corp. and Sheetz Inc. landed among The 15 Best Workplaces in Retail by Fortune magazine.
To compile the list, Great Place to Work, the longtime partner for Fortune's list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For, crunched the numbers on workplace fundamentals at U.S. retailers and reviewed employee surveys.
Tulsa, Okla.-based QuikTrip took the No. 5 spot among the large retail companies. The privately owned company counts 20,342 total employees and 779 locations. According to the Great Place to Work review, 93 percent of employees say their workplace is great.
As one employee said, "There is a serious sense of community and love throughout our QT team! Everyone at any of our stores has great respect for one another, which helps to support our shared desire to be the No. 1 convenience store available!"
Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz took the No. 9 spot among large companies. The privately owned company has 15,044 employees and 544 locations. According to Great Place to Work, 91 percent of employees said they are given the equipment and resources to do their jobs.
"Sheetz has great benefits! Quarterly bonuses based on store performance, paid vacation and personal days that can be earned by part-time and full-time employees, and the yearly raises are great for the first three years," one employee said. "My managers are friendly and approachable, and we all work together really well as a team. We also have a monthly meeting where our managers go over important events, how well (or not so well) our team has been doing its job and expectations for our store for the future."
Both convenience retailers also appeared on last year's list, with Sheetz ranked No. 8 and QuikTrip ranked No. 9, as CSNews Online previously reported.
