United Supermarkets Opens Eighth C-store

AMARILLO, Texas -- United Supermarkets LLC opened a freestanding United Express convenience store, the eighth in the company's convenience portfolio.

The Amarillo location, measuring 2,400 square feet, is near the site of the newest United Supermarket location and is slated to open on March 5. In addition to freestanding c-stores, the company also operates 19 United Express fuel kiosks at its supermarket locations.

The new location boasts a drive-thru window that offers specialty coffee and tea service featuring the company's Arriba brand. A full line of made-to-order coffees and tea -- including lattés, smoothies and frappes -- is available.

"Whether it's grabbing a hot latté in the morning, or a bag of ice and gallon of milk on the way home, our Amarillo guests are truly going to enjoy the drive-thru experience," said Tandy Arrant, convenience business manager for United Supermarkets.

The latest United Express also includes a six-pump fuel station offering both gasoline and diesel. In addition to traditional convenience items -- such as fountain drinks, grab-and-go packaged food and propane tank refills -- it also offers a wide assortment of "fresh to-go" items made inside the main store, including breakfast burritos and hot sandwiches, along with fresh fruit, milkshakes and other frozen beverages.

Lubbock, Texas-based United Supermarkets operates 58 stores under four brands -- United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigos and United Express -- as well as subsidiary operations R.C. Taylor Distributing, Praters and Llano Logistics. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Albertson's LLC.
