Valero Makes Million Dollar Pledge
SAN ANTONIO -- The St. Peter and St. Joseph's Children's Home received news this week from the Valero Energy Foundation, which is pledging $1 million to fortify the mission of helping children in need.
The home, comprised of children who have been abused and neglected, is in the process of building a new 32-bed emergency shelter on its five-acre campus that can serve 16 boys and 16 girls ages 12 to 17. The total cost of the project is $3.2 million, reported the San Antonio Business Journal.
"Valero's pledge of $1 million provides incredible momentum in reaching our goal," St. Peter and St. Joseph's Children's Home Board President Claude Koontz, told the paper.
The Foundation is the charitable arm of the San Antonio-based oil refiner Valero Energy Corp. In recent years, volunteers from the company have helped sponsor Christmas parties, summer fun days and conduct mentorship programs.
