Valero Raises $1.3 million for Muscular Dystrophy

SAN ANTONIO -- Valero Energy Corp. recently raised more than $1.3 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), setting a new company record. During the "Share the Shamrock Spirit" campaign, held Feb. 28 through March 27, customers could make a donation to MDA at any of the company’s nearly 1,000 Valero or Diamond Shamrock Corner Stores, the company reported.

"This year's campaign was especially exciting because we not only achieved record results, we also celebrated our 20 th anniversary as an MDA sponsor," said Gary Arthur, Valero's senior vice president of retail and specialty products marketing. "Community involvement is an integral part of Valero’s corporate culture and our retail employees are always willing to go above and beyond, whether to raise funds for worthy causes or to donate their time to help others. We’re especially proud of their commitment to this year’s MDA fundraiser, and we’re very thankful to our customers who gave so generously."

With it's nationwide donation of $1,387,519, Valero raised 18 percent more on a per-store basis than it raised in 2005. Altogether, the company’s retail stores have raised more than $9 million for MDA over the past 20 years.

All proceeds raised during the campaign were donated to MDA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing vital services and information to individuals affected by neuromuscular diseases. MDA also funds a summer camp for children battling these diseases and supports research aimed at finding cures and treatments.
