Valero Rebrands Albertsons Gas Kiosks

ABELINE, Texas – As part of the previously announced sale of 72 Albertsons’ gas kiosks in Abilene, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Baton Rouge, Layfette and Phoenix, Texas to Valero Energy Corp., the energy company is rebranding the sites to the Valero banner.

According to Jennifer Vroman, director of public affairs for Alberstons, some of the gas kiosks were be rebranded overnight to Valero-branded pumps.

"Albertsons is in the food business, and we made the decision to get out of the fuel market and keep our focus on food. Valero is one of the top five energy companies, and they came in with a great offer. We came up with an agreement that worked for both companies," Vroman told the Abeline Reporter-News.

Vroman expects that Valero will keep gas prices competitive with local competitors, but could not say for sure if prices would immediately change.

This move in inline with a press release the San Antonio-based Valero released in May stating that it will sell its branded fuel at all Alberstons locations. To date, Valero owns 17 oil refineries throughout the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean and is the nation's largest retail operator with 5,800 retail outlets under various names, including Valero, Diamond Shamrock, Shamrock, Ultramar and Beacon.
