Wawa Celebrates Opening of 500th Fuel Store
ABINGTON, Pa. — Approximately 20 years after adding gas to its convenience stores, Wawa Inc. is set to open its 500th fuel store.
The c-store chain will hold a grand opening for the store, located at 8250 Limekiln Pike in Cheltenham, Pa., at 10 a.m. on Nov. 10, according to the Abington Patch.
Customers will receive a free cup of coffee in any size throughout the day. Activities include a charitable hoagie-building competition between the Horsham Air and Army Guard and the Cheltenham Fire and Police. Wawa mascot Wally Goose will also attend.
Wawa is also hosting a care package assembly station in honor of Veterans Day. Customers can build care packages using products available at Wawa and write a letter of appreciation to veterans. The United Service Organizations will ship the packages to deployed troops over the holidays.
"When we determined our 500th fuel store grand opening was happening the day before Veterans Day, we couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than by paying tribute to the men and women who protect the freedoms we all enjoy," said Wawa Vice President of Fuel Brian Schaller.
"Today, we honor the associates and customers who have helped us achieve this milestone, as well as our heroes who make our communities and our country such a special place. It's hard to believe in just 20 years we've grown from a chain of food-only convenience stores to now 500 fuel stores across six states and diesel in over 400 of those stores," he added.
Wawa operates more than 700 c-stores in the United States.
