Wawa Hits Twitter With Hoagiefest 2012 News
WAWA, Pa. -- Six days and counting. That is when Wawa Inc. kicks off this year's Hoagiefest and it made the announcement not only through Facebook but also by joining the Twitter world.
"We're here! @Wawa has joined the Twitterverse. Follow us, and let us know about all your #Hoagiefest fun this summer!" Wawa tweeted on June 12.
Wawa is also changing up its annual Hoagiefest. This summer, instead of offering deals on Shorti hoagies like it did last summer, the Mid-Atlantic convenience retailer is launching Hoagiefest Classic Summer 2012 featuring its Classic Hoagies, claiming this year's promotion "is back bigger and better."
The company is also enlisting Facebook users to help with the launch of Hoagiefest. It set up a Hoagiefest Prelaunch page that needs 5,000 "likes" to unlock the details.
Last year's Hoagiefest drew some complaints from customers who disliked Wawa's decision to increase the price of its Shorti hoagies from $2.99 to $3.49 during the summer celebration. But as CSNews Online reported at the time, CEO Howard Stoeckel explained the company held the price steady for three years despite rising commodity prices and decided to maintain the size and quality of the hoagies, rather than cut corners to maintain a price point. His message appeared on Facebook.
