Wawa Supports Red Cross With Blood Drives

WAWA, Pa. -- This spring, individuals can donate blood at more than 20 Wawa locations and join the convenience chain's efforts to help the American Red Cross save lives.

From Feb. 15 until March 31, Wawa will be hosting blood drives in four of its operating states, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia. The retailer, which operates 560-plus stores, hopes to break its record from last year when more than 2,961 pints of blood were donated by Wawa associates and customers chainwide.

Wawa has supported blood drives for the American Red Cross for more than two decades. During the past five years, more than 10,000 pints of blood have been collected at Wawa's chainwide blood drives, which are open to the public and staffed by company volunteers who give of their time and donate their blood to the effort as well.

A single donation can help as many as three people -- and as an added incentive, successful donors receive a coupon for a free pint of Wawa's own iced tea or fruit drink.

Donors must bring appropriate photo identification, such as a driver's license or American Red Cross donor card. Afterwards, the blood donations are brought back to the American Red Cross where they are tested and separated into components.
