What's In Store: Casey's, Circle K & Stewart's Shops

NATIONAL REPORT — The convenience store industry landscape is constantly changing as chains open and close stores each week. On a regular basis, Convenience Store News highlights these comings and goings in this special roundup.

Casey's General Stores Inc.

Customers in Fort Loramie, Ohio can now shop at a new Casey's General Stores location. It is one of three Casey's convenience stores to open in Ohio this spring. A c-store chain known for its freshly made pizza, Casey's also makes doughnuts and bread for its sandwiches fresh daily.

The 4,185-square-foot location is open daily from 5 a.m. to midnight. When fully staffed, it will have 30 full- and part-time employees. The retailer celebrated the new store with grand opening festivities on April 28 and 29. Specials included discounts on gas, cookies and doughnuts, fountain beverages and pizza. Customers also had the chance to win free gas or pizza for a year.

Circle K

Circle K held a two-week long grand opening celebration for its latest store in Jeffersonville, Ind. The celebration, which kicked off April 5, included specials on candy, snacks and beverages.

In addition, consumers who downloaded the new Circle K app got a 20-ounce Coke and hot dog for $2. They were also able to register for the Circle K rewards program and earn the opportunity to spin a prize wheel. One winner received a bike during the grand opening festivities.

Kum & Go LC

Convenience retailer Kum & Go welcomed customers at a new store in Colorado Springs, Colo.  The store puts a focus on fresh food, and a key feature is an expanded and open food preparation area that customers can see when they enter. Other location features include:

  • Elevated food experience with Kum & Go's "Go Fresh Market"
  • Open kitchen layout, clear aisles and easy-to-navigate zones
  • Designed for LEED-certified status, using energy efficient and sustainable design practice

"This footprint represents everything that Kum & Go strives to be for our associates and for our customers," said Kum & Go President and CEO Kyle J. Krause. "This is the evolution of our brand promise and business approach. Now customers can truly experience the 'more' that we provide."

Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores

A new Love's Travel Stops in Sinton, Texas welcomed customers in early May. The location adds nearly 90 truck-parking spaces to the Love's network. The new store is Love's second travel stop along U.S. Highway 77.

"We're happy to expand our presence in South Texas, the coastal areas of the state and the Rio Grande Valley," said Greg Love, co-CEO of Love's. "The portion of U.S. Highway 77 in Sinton is a busy freight corridor that connects the coastal areas to other major cities in the state. We're glad to provide the 'Clean Places, Friendly Faces' Love's is known for to more areas of Texas, and we look forward to giving professional drivers more areas to rest."

The new location is open 24 hours, seven days a week and features Chester's Chicken and McDonald's restaurants, a game room, 86 truck-parking spaces and showers. Professional drivers will also find gourmet coffee, fountain drinks, fresh fruit, name-brand snacks, CAT scales, DEF and other driver services.

Rutter's

Rutter's cut the ribbon on its newest store in Annville, Pa. on May 11. This is the retailer's first location in Lebanon County and their 67th store. The Annville location also kicked off Rutter's 2017 new store locations.

The 7,500-square-foot store has 16 fueling stations and four dedicated high-speed truck diesel bays. This location features Rutter's well-known foodservice offering. Hand-crafted beverages — such as tea smoothies, gourmet frappes, and lattes — will be served in Rutter's espresso bar and beverage station.

It will employ 50 team members, and be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year.

Stewart's Shops Corp.
