What's In Store: Holiday Stationstores, NOCO Express & Parker's

NATIONAL REPORT — The convenience store industry landscape is constantly changing as chains open and close stores each week. On a regular basis, Convenience Store News highlights these comings and goings in this special roundup.  

Holiday Stationstores

Holiday Stationstores is growing its footprint in Rapid City, S.D. The retailer recently opened a new convenience store and gas station at Rushmore Crossing. It has two additional locations planned for the metro area.

In all, Holiday Stationstores has 15 other locations in South Dakota, with the majority located in the Sioux Falls area.

NOCO Express

NOCO Express kept busy with new openings in early March.

On March 1, the retailer held a grand opening of Tim Hortons at its store at 4265 Maple Road in Amherst, N.Y. This site underwent an approximately four-week remodel to accommodate the addition, which required relocating the store's registers. The Tim Hortons operation is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., offering customers a selection of coffees, specialty beverages, sandwiches and baked goods — both in-store and via the new drive-thru. 

During the month of March, NOCO Express also completed the renovation of its store at 6724 Williams Road in Niagara Falls, N.Y. The two-week interior remodel provided an updated look and expanded fresh product selection, plus the addition of custom wall shelving and a new register area. A new cooler island features freshly prepared and prepackaged sandwiches, salads, wraps and snack packs from NOCO's Nickel City Foods line. In addition, new wall graphics installed throughout the store provide an overall modernized look. 

Parker's Convenience Stores 

Parker's opened a new drive-thru retail location in Okatie, S.C., near the entrance to Callawassie Island. The store is the company's 44th overall and its 10th in South Carolina.

The new Parker's store features a hot deli serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Fresh-prepared foods and non-alcoholic retail items are available at the drive-thru window. The location also offers 12 fueling positions, selling gasoline as well as non-ethanol fuel and diesel.
 
"We're thrilled to open our newest store near Callawassie Island, serving a fast-growing customer base in Beaufort County," said Greg Parker, company president and CEO. "This convenient drive-thru will make it easier than ever to pick up a hot breakfast and a cup of freshly brewed coffee in the morning or a delicious dinner on the way home in the evening."

Rutter's Farm Stores 

Rutter's is heading north for its second new store of 2016. The retailer's 63rd store overall will be located in Mifflintown, Pa., and welcome customers this summer.

The store will be located right off the Port Royal exit of U.S. 322, easily accessible for large trucks and heavy volumes of traffic. The business will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and offer food around the clock. The dining area will feature seating for more than 30 guests.  

The store will additionally offer free Wi-Fi and feature Rutter's espresso bar and beverage center that serves hand-crafted beverages such as fruit smoothies, Red Bull smoothies, frappes and lattes.  

Stripes Convenience Stores

Stripes, a division of Sunoco LP, celebrated the grand opening of a new store in Pecos, Texas, on March 16. The new Stripes store measures 7,000 square feet and features the Laredo Taco Co. food program; a dining area for 20; The Beer Super Cooler; and "The Wall" with more than 2.1 billion possible fountain combinations. The forecourt is equipped with 23 Sunoco-branded fuel dispensers offering unleaded and super unleaded, along with a truck diesel station.  

Stripes also marked the grand opening of another new store, in Odessa, Texas, on March 23. This new Stripes store is likewise a 7,000-square-foot location and has all the same features, except it features 19 Sunoco-branded fuel dispensers.

TravelCenters of America LLC

TravelCenters, operator of the TA and Petro Stopping Centers travel center brands, welcomed customers to a new Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Minit Mart convenience store and Shell gasoline offering at its TA location on Interstate 75 in Caryville, Tenn.

The Popeyes restaurant offers a full menu and has seating for 66 people. It is open daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Minit Mart store features the banner's Cool Cup fountain beverages, World Blends Coffee, and fresh-food offerings from the onsite O'Deli's kitchen, including healthy snack choices. A newly remodeled and expanded truck parking lot, diesel islands, CAT truck scale and professional driver entrance are scheduled to open in late May.

TravelCenters also expanded its network with its new Petro Wilmington center, which sits on 27 acres along Interstate 55 in Wilmington, Ill. This facility offers 229 angled and truck parking spaces; more than 120 car parking spaces; eight diesel lanes, all equipped to pump bulk DEF; 12 Shell-branded gasoline fueling points; a five-bay Petro:Lube facility; and RoadSquad emergency roadside service.

Petro Wilmington offers an Iron Skillet full-service restaurant with a buffet and StayFit menu options; a Charleys Philly Steak quick-service restaurant; and a 4,900-square-foot Minit Mart store. Professional driver customers will additionally find nine driver showers operated by a fully automated reservation system, a StayFit fitness room, an outdoor walking trail for continued dedication to fitness, and a laundry facility.
