Williams Partners with ExxonMobil
FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Williams Cos. Inc. reached a deal with Irving, Texas-based ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Co. to use its proprietary SCANfining gasoline sulfur reduction process at its Memphis, Tenn. refinery.
Williams expects the SCANfining technology to satisfy its Memphis refinery's current needs for gasoline sulfur reduction and provide the flexibility required to meet future needs. The fuel produced by Williams will be used to supply its nationwide network travel centers.
First tested at ExxonMobil refineries, the SCANfining process selectively removes sulfur from the refining process while minimizing octane loss. The technology uses a proprietary catalyst jointly developed by ExxonMobil and Akzo Nobel Catalysts.
