Wine Sales Uncorked at Rutter's Store

YORK, Pa. — Rutter's Farm Stores kicked the weekend off with the sale of wine for the first time in the chain's history.

The Rutter's convenience store in Goldsboro Newberry Township became the first location to add wine to its inventory on Friday, April 7. It marks the first of seven Rutter's locations planning to sell wine with beer.

The selection in Rutter's wine stores will include Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir. The wine department will be set up near the beer caves and feature an array of brands.

In accordance with PA Law Act 39, Rutter's customers will be able to purchase up to 3,000 milliliters (3 liters) of wine. This equates to four standard bottles (750 milliliters) and two large bottles (1.5 liters). Wine sale hours will differ from beer, in conformity with Act 39: Monday thru Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., according to the York-based retailer.

In June, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf signed into law a measure expanding retailers' ability to sell beer and wine within the state, as CSNews Online previously reported. The first Rutter's stores began selling beer in November.

"The passing of Act 39 was not only a huge deal for us as retailers, but also for our customers. We are now able to provide them with even more convenience," said Derek Gaskins, chief customer officer. "We are devoted to responsible retailing. Any employee that will be selling alcohol is (Responsible Alcohol Management Program) certified. We also have our own house rule to card everyone. We are excited to expand on our beer sales and now include wine at Rutter's."

Rutter's is a family-owned convenience store chain operating more than 60 locations throughout central Pennsylvania.
