7-Eleven to Accept MasterCard and Amex Contactless Cards
DALLAS, TEXAS -- 7-Eleven Inc. will now accept MasterCard PayPass and has American Express’ ExpressPay-enabled readers in 170 stores in a test market, with plans to roll out the contactless payment options to more than 5,300 U.S. stores by early 2006.
Both payment options use radio frequency technology.
"As the world's largest convenience retailer, it's a natural decision for 7-Eleven to provide consumers with an even more convenient way to pay," said Rick Updyke, vice president of business development for 7-Eleven. "PayPass enhances our customers’ shopping experience by offering speed and convenience when paying at 7-Eleven."
To complete a payment transaction, cardholders simply tap their PayPass-enabled MasterCard card or ExpressPay American Express card inside the store at the specially equipped terminals using RF technology.

In other news, American Express announced it is issuing Blue from American Express with the ExpressPay feature in all 50 states. The feature will be embedded in all new Blue from American Express consumer and small business credit cards.
The ExpressPay feature will be available on Blue, Blue Cash, Blue for Students, Blue for Business credit cards and Blue Cash for Business from American Express.
