7-Eleven Coronates Its First Slurpee Queen

TAYLOR, Mich. — It may not be the hit movie, but 7-Eleven Inc. has crowned its own frozen queen.

The Dallas-based convenience store chain named a 7-Eleven franchisee in Taylor as its first-ever Slurpee Queen. Rani Singh earned the title by selling the most frozen dispensed beverages nationwide, according to the Detroit Free Press.

"It feels really awesome," said Singh, who credits her success to her employees and customers, saying they are her first priority and key to her business. She operates the 7-Eleven store at 20945 Ecorse Road with the help of her husband, Bob Singh.

On average, her store sells 375 Slurpees per day. In the summer months, the number balloons to as many as 1,000 Slurpees per day, according to the report.

Singh's coronation was held Wednesday afternoon. The public was invited to join the festivities, which featured free food samples and product giveaways.

In addition, what better way to celebrate 7-Eleven's first Slurpee Queen than with free small Slurpees? The Slurpee truck was on hand giving away the frozen treats, including the three flavors exclusive to the Detroit area: Vernors Ginger Ale, Faygo Rock and Rye, and Faygo Redpop.

It may be fitting that the Slurpee Queen hails from the metropolitan area. According to the news report, Detroit is dubbed Slurpee Nation because it's the No. 1 Slurpee market in the United States and sells 3.5 times more of the frozen drink than anywhere else in the country. 7-Eleven estimates that more than 2 million Slurpees will be sold in Michigan during July.

While this is the retailer's first Slurpee Queen, 7-Eleven bestowed the title of Queen of Coffee on a Southampton, N.Y., franchisee in November. Lorie DeFelice won that inaugural honor for selling approximately 1,400 cups of coffee and 400 doughnuts a day. The retailer decided to name its first Queen of Coffee this year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of 7-Eleven first offering coffee to go, as CSNews Online previously reported.

7-Eleven operates, franchises or licenses nearly 10,500 7-Eleven stores in North America.
