7-Eleven Taking Flight With New Airport Locations

LOS ANGELES — 7-Eleven Inc. brought its brand into U.S. airports for the first time with the May 29 opening of a convenience store in the pre-security/arrivals sections of Los Angeles International Airport's (LAX) Tom Bradley International Terminal, reported USA Today. This is the first in-terminal location for 7-Eleven in the United States.

"The store had 35 customers waiting for the doors to open and there was a huge rush on fresh foods and proprietary beverages — you know — Big Gulps and Slurpees," stated 7-Eleven spokeswoman Margaret Chabris.

The 950-square-foot LAX 7-Eleven operates from 6 a.m. to midnight and features foodservice offerings of fresh sandwiches, snacks, salads, whole- and by-the-slice pizza, tacos, chicken wings and hot dogs. The store also stocks magazines and newspapers, travel-size personal care items and a range of over-the-counter medications.

7-Eleven plans to open a second in-terminal airport store in the post-security section of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport's (DFW) Terminal A this fall, followed by another DFW store in Terminal E at an unspecified future date.

The company currently has three stores in airport plazas on U.S. airport properties near John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, and Southwest International Airport in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Dallas-based c-store chain also has 59 stores inside airports in other countries. Its first-ever airport location opened inside Canada's Vancouver International Airport in 2001.
