Age Verification Enables 7-Eleven to Expand Mobile App Offers

DALLAS — 7-Eleven Inc. is adding a verification system to its 7Rewards mobile rewards program, whereby consumers interested in age-restricted items can now be enticed to use the convenience store retailer’s mobile app.

According to Mobile Commerce Daily, 7-Eleven's prior mobile app offers could only apply to deals available for all ages. But now, consumers interested in targeted offers for items such as alcohol, tobacco and gambling products can use the verification system.

7Rewards members already received email notifications about the new policy. Mobile users who want to be verified for age-restricted products can change their account information within the app. Once the user selects the “verify age” button under the My Account page and provides the proper age-related information, they are eligible to receive these extra promotions.

The app also asks customers to choose which age-restricted products they are most interested in, reported the news outlet.

“Mobile has grown up. It has become, or at least should be, an integral part of every marketer’s and retailer’s business,” Michael Becker, managing partner of atmCordis, told the news source. “Clearly, 7-Eleven gets it.”

Dallas-based 7-Eleven operates, franchises or licenses nearly 10,500 7-Eleven stores in North America.
