Best Single-Store Original Design Winner: Morton’s

Best Original Design (Single Store)*
Winner: Morton’s, Hallettsville, Texas
Designer: Paragon Solutions

Owners Diane and Randy Morton had two special individuals in mind when creating this 7,000-square-foot convenience store and diner. The first is Diane’s father, who provided the bulk of “attractions” to the location. The second is Rowdy, the Mortons’ lovable pooch.

It is thanks to these inspirations that Morton’s finishes are distinctly unique, with antiques canvassing every crevice of the store, including Elvis Presley-inspired pieces.

Morton’s colors and furnishings also evoke a “‘blast from the past’ vibe that you half expect the cast of ‘Grease’ to come strutting through the doors,” designer Paragon Solutions said.

The diner leads customers into the c-store, which is kept stocked with local Texas food offerings and a beer cooler, as well as family-friendly restrooms. In addition, as homage to Rowdy, Morton’s serves as a pet pit stop, complete with bubbler pet fountains, trees and a picnic table.
