Best Themed Design: Y Not Stop
Last year, the family-owned and -operated St. Romain Oil Co. reached out to Paragon Solutions Inc. to design a new convenience store catering to the friendly, nature-loving customers in the area. In December 2009, the Y Not Stop opened in Jonesville, La.
The 5,970-square-foot store got its unique name from its location at the locally known "Y Stop" intersection, and the St. Romain family wanted to keep that heritage and incorporate it throughout the design. The store's interior is described by Paragon's designers as "bringing high tech to Louisiana cotton fields and the bayou."
Flatscreen TVs and digital foodservice ordering kiosks mingle with rustic hardwood floors and nature-inspired wall murals. Customers encounter the smell of home cookin' as they enter the store and make their way around to the "Cavalier Salon" beer cave or to "The Watering Hole" for fountain drinks. Everything inside the store is "top-notch" from the newest equipment and custom cabinetry, to the latest in open merchandising cases and end-caps, according to the Fort Worth, Texas-based design firm.
The Y Not Stop understands its local customers, listens to those customers and then gives them what they want. On top of excellent sales results and rave reviews from customers, the St. Romain Oil Co. has been able to use the store as a cornerstone to get involved with the local community. Its annual fundraiser, "Y Not Eat to Beat Alzheimer's," raised tens of thousands of dollars for local Alzheimer's patients.
