BP Donates $10,000 to Tennessee Youth Group

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- BP America recently donated $10,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Middle Tennessee, in support of the Thompson Lane Club, allowing the group to purchase new technological equipment, the company stated.

The donation was made by Brenda Powell, terminal manager for BP's Nashville terminal, according to the company.

"BP believes it is important to be a part of the fabric of our communities, as opposed to simply being a business operating in the community," Powell said in a statement. "Our friends at the Boys and Girls Club are an incredibly important resource for the community, and BP is proud we can assist their operations."

The donation will be used to purchase new equipment and supplies, including new computers and software to be used by all members, John Hamilton, director of the Middle TN Club, said in a statement. The money will also fund teen outreach programs.

"We are very appreciative of BP for this generous donation," said Hamilton. "Our department operates on limited funds to be able to provide resources to shorten the digital divide which exists between the have and the have not. This donation will go a long way toward helping us accomplish our mission, 'to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.'"
