BP To Sell 22 Stations in South Florida

CHICAGO -- BP is selling 22 BP-branded gas stations in South Florida through NRC Realty Advisors. Of the 22 sites, 20 are currently operating locations and two are closed.

In addition, three of the sites are being offered for redevelopment for other commercial use. Sales of the locations include real estate or ground lease, buildings, fixtures and equipment.

"The BP brand is distinctive in South Florida," Hope Mineo, managing director of NRC, said in a written statement.

The BP sites will be sold through NRC's sealed bid sale process. The deadline for sealed bid submission is July 26. Prospective dealers are required to submit a completed dealer application before submitting bids. The dealer application is available for download at www.nrc.com/716.

In addition, bidders must obtain a property specific package (PSP) for each site to be bid upon. Each PSP contains a site specific bid package, due diligence information, bid instructions, a bidding form and purchase contract.

A complimentary color portfolio brochure with site information summaries and maps can be obtained by calling (800) 747-3342, ext. 716.

In other BP news, the company's A+ for Energy initiative will award innovative California teachers, at nearly 130 schools, for their energy conservation education programs by distributing $1.5 million in grants and scholarships to develop new projects for students.

BP will endorse more the projects submitted by teachers that raise awareness about energy through creative ideas about conservation and alternative energy. The programs are estimated to reach more than 57,000 students in California.

The teachers selected by the program receive financial support for classroom, after-school, extra-curricular or summer activities that promote innovative, life-applicable ways to demonstrate energy conservation and renewable energy sources, according to the company.

"There is no greater source of inspiration and motivation for young minds than from hard working teachers. Teachers provide the catalyst for students to think seriously about the importance of energy, energy conservation and the environment," Thomas Markin, vice president of government and public affairs for BP America, said in a written statement. "BP takes great pride in awarding A+ for Energy grants and scholarships, because they not only recognize educational innovation, but also help teach future generations to become responsible stewards of energy resources and the environment."

The A+ for Energy applications were reviewed and selected by an independent panel of state educational and environmental leaders. Submissions included solar-powered car efficiency, urban wind turbine technology and concepts in hydropower. Award recipients will collect grants in $5,000 and $10,000 increments, according to the company.

"BP is at the forefront of renewable and alternative energy development and the A+ for Energy program looks to our educators for unique ideas and solutions," Dianne Anderson, president of West Coast fuels marketing for ARCO, said in a written statement. "The alternative energy ideas and innovations submitted by this year's A+ for Energy grant and scholarship recipients illustrate that everyone must be forward-thinking to ensure a sustainable environment for future generations."

A+ for Energy winners will be formally recognized by BP representatives, California government and community leaders at an awards banquet in California on June 25.
