BP to Sell 48 Atlanta Area ampm Stores
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- As part of BP's previously announced plan to sell all of its company-owned and -operated retail sites to franchisees, dealers and jobbers, the company is selling 48 Atlanta area retail sites through NRC Realty Advisors.
Of the 48 sites, 41 are available for franchise, three are available as de-branded gasoline sites, four are available as BP dealer sites with fuel agreements only. Seven are multiple offerings including commercial use, according to NRC.
The 41 franchise sites will be re-imaged or developed as ampm stores with BP-branded gasoline, NRC stated. The company's efforts to foster diversity and inclusion by recruiting minority franchisees will continue with the sale.
"As much as possible, we want ampm stores to be owned and operated by people who live in the communities we serve," Fiona MacLeod, president of BP U.S. Convenience Retail, said in a statement.
BP owns and operates approximately 700 convenience stores, which will be sold over a two-year period. Like the stores operating west of the Rockies, all will be named ampm. The company will continue to market BP fuels in the eastern United States and ARCO fuels in the western United States. The franchise agreements will be for 20 years and require sites to be supplied with BP or ARCO branded fuels for the term of the contract, according to the company.
"The ampm brand has a 30-year proven track record in some of the most competitive marketing areas in the U.S.," said MacLeod. "Franchising the ampm brand across the U.S. just makes sense.
"The ampm franchise was the only convenience store owned by an integrated oil and gas company to make Entrepreneur's 2008 Franchise 500, where its west of Rockies operations ranked 35th, and the Franchise Times' Top 200, where its west of Rockies operations ranked 39th."
NRC will accept offers submitted by March 11. Interested parties are required to complete a franchise application and attend a complimentary seminar in Atlanta. Parties can contact NRC at (800) 747-3342, ext. 802 for details and registration, and can download a franchise application at www.nrc.com/bp.
In other BP news, the ampm convenience stores are joining Fusion Energy Products' sponsorship to L&M Racing's Supercross team for the upcoming 2008 season.
"BP and ampm have been ongoing sponsors of Supercross racing for several years, but had not aligned with any team for 2008. We were looking for a top-tier retail partner to share our sponsorship with," said Eric Schick, president of Bond Laboratories. "They obviously understood the marketing and brand image value that associating with a premier team like L&M racing brings, so when the opportunity to have them join our sponsorship of Chad Reed and Nathan Ramsey came up, we jumped on it."
BP will assist in the national launch of Fusion Energy Products, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bond Laboratories Inc.
