Bud Light's Rock Paper Scissors League Goes Global

ST. LOUIS -- After two years of growth, the Bud Light/USA Rock Paper Scissors League (USARPS) Championship is going global in 2008, Anheuser-Busch stated.

The weekend of competition will crown a new Bud Light USARPS League champion on June 22, 2008, at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, according to the company. The winner will receive a $50,000 prize and a ticket to compete in Beijing during the Summer Olympics, the company stated.

The U.S. champion will travel to Beijing as USARPS League's representative at the inaugural International Rock Paper Scissors Federation Championship (IRPSF), where the winner will compete against other champions from Canada, Guam, Hong Kong, Ireland and Malaysia, to determine who holds the title of the world's best Rock Paper Scissors player, the company stated.

"Bud Light, with its endless refreshment and superior drinkability, is all about opportunities that are fun, social and co-ed for adult beer drinkers," Bud Light director, Rick Leininger, said in a statement. "Here we have a competition that is all of those things, and who better to bring it to a global audience than the world's best-selling beer?"

Local qualifying matches will be held across the country to find the 2008 USARPS League champion, the company said. Tournaments are currently under way in 300 markets nationwide and will continue through April 30, when more than 300 finalists will travel to Las Vegas, according to the company. The five other countries participating in the global tournament will conduct their competitions simultaneously, the company stated.
