Captain D's Upgrades to DIRECWAY Broadband Solution

NASHVILLE -- Quick-service seafood chain Captain D's Inc. has upgraded to a DIRECWAY Private IP broadband network connecting more than 560 restaurants in 22 states.

Provided by Hughes Network Systems Inc., the system allows the Captain D's to connect all of its remote locations without interfering with systems already in place.

“We examined a number of service providers,” said Chris Crabtree, vice president of information services for Captain D's. “We looked at DSL, cable and frame relay solutions and found that DIRECWAY was the only solution that worked at every site regardless of wiring, set-up or location. Other broadband providers couldn't deliver that.”

The satellite broadband solution allows Captain D's employees to train staff remotely at each restaurant site using the company intranet. Materials are multicast, received simultaneously and can be stored, allowing employees to train locally at convenient times and saving on travel costs.

Since implementing the system, Captain D's said it has seen a decrease in worker's compensation claims, an increase in customer satisfaction levels and an overall greater level of consistency across the chain.
