Casey's Begins Work on Second Distribution Center

ANKENY, Iowa – Casey's General Stores Inc. broke ground on its second distribution center, which is scheduled to open sometime in 2015, according to a My Wabash Valley report.

The 250,000-square-foot site is being built in the Vigo County Industrial Park in Terre Haute, Ind. Casey's selected the location to support its strategic growth into Tennessee, Kentucky and further south through acquisitions and new store builds, as CSNews Online previously reported.

The convenience store chain reportedly received $1.4 million in tax breaks for the distribution center, which is bringing approximately 200 jobs to the area.

The Ankeny-based retailer revealed the location of its newest distribution center in April. The company said the facility will cost an estimated $30 million.

“Casey’s devoted a significant amount of time and resources to the site selection process for this facility,” said Robert Myers, president and CEO. “We believe Terre Haute is the most strategic location that will enable us to expand our territory further south and east, while at the same time providing a more efficient distribution system to our existing stores.”

The construction project is expected to be completed in 12-18 months. In conjunction with the construction of the Indian facility, the Casey's has also recently begun construction on a 38,000-square-foot addition to its current distribution center in Ankeny.
