Cody's to Open 16th Store in Springfield, Mo.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Cody's Convenience Stores, a 15-store chain based here, is building a new ground-up store that is expected to open here May 1.

According to the Springfield Business Journal, the retailer is constructing a 3,080-square-foot store that will feature eight fueling stations and a convenience store.

Missouri Supermarket Builders Inc. is identified as the general contractor for the facility, whose cost is estimated at $700,000, according to a Springfield building permit.

The chain takes its name from the famous western performer, Buffalo Bill Cody, whose Wild West Show came to Springfield in the mid 1880s. A local shopkeeper named his store after Buffalo Bill Cody. The store was the seed that become a future modern convenience store chain.
