COMPETITIVE WATCH: Price Chopper and Sunoco

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Regional grocery chain Price Chopper again expanded its partnership with Sunoco, which offers fuel discounts at local Sunoco locations to its customers, to include several grocery locations in the area here, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

The promotion, which began yesterday, will offer Price Chopper customers a 10 cent discount off every gallon bought at participating local Sunoco stations when they use the grocer's AdvantEdge card for a purchase of $50 or more, then insert their AdvantEdge into the pump's card reader, the report stated.

Credits can be used in a three-month period after they're earned, on purchases of up to 20 gallons of gas, according to the report.

"It's eventually going to be rolling out to all the stores but right now, it's just in the lower Hudson Valley area," Jeff McGovern, co-manager of the Poughkeepsie Price Chopper, told the Journal.

Other area Price Chopper locations that are participating in the program include Middletown, Vails Gate and Newburgh, N.Y. The participating Sunoco locations include two in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. -- at 740 Main St. and 2194 S. Road; and Route 376 in Wappinger, N.Y., according to the report.

CSNews Online previously reported that Price Chopper has arranged partnerships with Sunoco locations for five of its stores and 19 Sunoco locations in Connecticut; at six Price Chopper stores and 22 Sunoco stations in the Schenectady, N.Y.; and several grocery locations in Worcester, Mass., and Putnam, Conn., with 12 Sunoco stations.
