Conoco Recognized as Top Employer
HOUSTON
Conoco Inc., operator of approximately 300 convenience stores in the United States, was named by the Houston Business Journal as the best large company (over 501 employees) to work for in Houston.
The 126-year-old energy company has been headquartered in Houston for more than 50 years.
"We are thrilled to be named one of the best places to work in Houston," said Archie Dunham, Conoco's chairman and CEO. "It is a testament to our employees, whose hard work makes this company great, and whose volunteer efforts help make Houston great."
Conoco employs more than 2,000 people locally, close to 10,000 nationwide and almost 20,000 globally.
In 1953, Conoco was one of the first companies in America to offer an employee savings plan. Worth Magazine has twice ranked the Conoco Thrift Plan number-one in the nation. Last year, as a way to show the company's commitment to the personal development of its employees, Conoco gave every employee a personal home computer system or another electronic tool.
Conoco's commitment to the safety of its employees is also evident. According to the American Petroleum Institute (API), Conoco is the safest in the industry, a position it has held for 16 of the past 22 years.
Conoco employees also take pride in their company and community. The company is nationally acclaimed for having one of the most active corporate community volunteer programs. Conoco employees and their family members volunteer in a variety of ways year-round to help people in the greater Houston area.
