CSNews Editor Don Longo to Speak at NYACS Education Event

Don Longo

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Convenience Store News Editorial Director Don Longo will offer information and advice to convenience store retailers attending the New York Association of Convenience Stores’ (NYACS) "Building Blocks for Neighborhood Retailers" event on Tuesday, Dec. 3. During his presentation, Longo will provide the latest industry data on independent c-stores and share how small retailers can confront the challenges of operating against their bigger rivals in today’s market through examples torn from the pages of Convenience Store News for the Single Store Owner magazine.

The "Building Blocks" event will be a one-day laboratory of learning, networking and product sourcing for retailers located in the Hudson Valley, metro New York and surrounding areas. It is co-sponsored by CSNews for the Single Store Owner, Altria Corp., McLane Co. and Swisher International Inc., and will take place at the DoubleTree Hotel in Tarrytown, N.Y.

"In today's regulatory and competitive environment, success is really hard for independent operators to achieve, especially in New York State," said NYACS President Jim Calvin. "This event will provide practical knowledge, resources and contacts they can use to build their businesses."

The event will feature nearly a dozen free workshops during two time blocks: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The workshops will be geared specifically for owners, operators and managers of convenience stores, gas stations, grocery stores, bodegas, newsstands, smoke shops, college stores and other retail formats.

Morning sessions will include:

  • Maximizing Your Lottery Program

  • Making the Candy Category Even Sweeter

  • Managing Gas Station Environmental Compliance

  • Risks and Rewards of Money Services
