CSNews Garners Three More Journalism Awards
DEERFIELD, Ill. — In the past week, Convenience Store News added three more journalism awards to its increasingly crowded trophy case.
First, the publication was honored by Trade, Association and Business Publications International (TABI) with a silver award in the association’s 13th annual Tabbie Awards. The editorial and design competition is open to English-language, business-to-business publications worldwide.
CSNews snagged a silver Tabbie Award for Best Front Cover, Illustration, for “Getting Their Fill,” the front cover of the June 2015 Industry Report issue of Convenience Store News. The illustration was done by Wisconsin-based freelance illustrator James Sheppard, under the direction of CSNews Editor-in-Chief Linda Lisanti and Art Director Michael Escobedo.
“This illustration is fantastic! It made me smile when I saw it. Great concept,” said one of the judges.
The 2016 Tabbie Awards featured more than 400 entries, with nominations coming from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, India, Ireland, United Arab Emirates, Singapore and South Africa.
Later that same week, CSNews came away from the American Society of Business Press Editors (ASBPE) annual national awards dinner in St. Petersburg, Fla., with a national gold award for Best How-To Article and a national bronze award for Best Original Research.
The convenience store industry’s No. 1 media brand had previously won a Midwest regional gold award for Best How-To Article for “How To Use Loyalty Programs to Drive Foodservice Sales,” written by Contributing Editor Maureen Azzato and published in March 2015. This article is part of CSNews’ popular “How To Do World-Class Foodservice” series.
CSNews’ June 2015 “Industry Report: Getting Their Fill” was again honored, this time earning the national bronze Azbee Award for Best Original Research. Under the guidance of Research Director Debra Chanil, the industry’s premier research report had earlier won a Midwest regional silver award. The entire CSNews editorial staff contributes to this annual report.
“All of these awards illustrate the great teamwork among the editors, designers and researchers that help make CSNews the convenience industry’s most influential media brand,” said Editorial Director Don Longo.
ASBPE’s annual competition recognizes the hard work and commitment of business-to-business and professional magazine, newsletter, and web editors and designers. The Azbee Award is a prestigious acknowledgement that the work has met high standards of excellence and is at the top of the profession. The society’s contest is extremely competitive and one of the largest U.S. business publication competitions.
CSNews’ parent company, Stagnito Business Information + Edgell Communications, is based in Deerfield, Ill. Over the past eight years, CSNews has won 24 media industry editorial honors.
