Fresh & Easy Recruiting Efforts Succeed

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- If Tesco's recruitment efforts serve as any indicator, Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets will be well received in the first markets in which it plans to open, as details on the company's recruitment effort reveal that nearly 1,000 applicants applied for the 170 positions in the company's first six stores.

"We are delighted our recruitment efforts have been so well-received," Simon Uwins, Fresh & Easy chief marketing officer, said in a statement. "Our store positions offer competitive salaries, rewards and benefits. Based on the number of applicants we've had for our first six stores, it is clear our neighbors are interested in working with us."

The stores, located in Los Angeles, Anaheim, West Covina, Arcadia, Hemet and Upland, Calif., are scheduled to open Nov. 8, the company stated.

In addition, of those employees hired, more than 50 percent live within three miles of the stores, in local neighborhoods. All employees work more than 20 hours and are eligible for medical, prescription drugs, dental and vision coverage, according to the company.

Further, more than 40 percent of store employees are full time, and three store employees were promoted to management level positions, based on outstanding performances, the company stated.

As previously announced, the company will pay entry level workers at its stores $10 an hour in California, with similarly competitive salaries in Arizona and Nevada, and all positions will include a quarterly bonus of up to 10 percent, the company stated.
