Gas Tax Hike Proposed for Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Alexandria Democratic Rep. Herbert Dixon proposed a 4-cent boost in the state's gas tax, on top of the current 20-cent per gallon tax, The Associated Press reported.

Dixon faces a tough road, however, as Gov. Bobby Jindal has said he would veto any tax increase approved by legislators in the regular session beginning April 27, according to the report.

A 4-cent slice of the tax goes to a special list of road and bridge projects, and Dixon wants to raise that portion by 4 cents a gallon beginning July 1, 2010, the report stated.
