Giant Food Stores Opens First Giant To Go C-store

CARLISLE, Pa. -- Giant Food Stores will open the doors of the company’s first convenience store, Giant To Go, Wednesday, April 15, at 6 a.m., the company reported.

The 4,422-square-foot store, located at 601 Richmond Drive in Lancaster, will offer a new kind of convenience store experience, bringing customers the quality and freshness expected of Giant, plus the added value of Giant’s BonusCard savings, according to the company. Sean Michael was named store manager of Giant To Go.

"Giant To Go will be more than your typical convenience store with everything customers would expect to find in a convenience store, but with an emphasis on fresh, on-the-go products and savings for which Giant is well-known," said Sander van der Laan, president and CEO of Giant Food Stores. "Lancaster customers now will be able to participate in our Gas Extra Rewards program as well as use their Giant BonusCard when purchasing products at the new store."

Giant To Go, open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., will employ 12 people.

Outside, the Giant To Go location will offer the second Giant fuel station in Lancaster County, consisting of eight pumps, each with a pay-at-the-pump feature.

Customers will also be able to receive savings at the pump through Giant’s Gas Extra Rewards program. For every $100 customers spend at Giant To Go or any Giant supermarket location on qualifying in-store purchases, they are eligible to receive 10 cents off per gallon of gas, according to the company.

When asked about future Giant To Go sites go, director of public and community relations Tracy Pawelski told CSNews Online sister publication, Progressive Grocer: "We plan to open two Giant To Go stores in Lancaster County, Pa., this year. We will evaluate the success of these initial two locations and make a determination from there."

As for future locations, Pawelski noted: "We have been searching for the right sites to offer on-the-go locations that include gas and maximize Giant value. We are interested in developing new and innovative formats that provide our customers with the best combination of convenience and value."

Inside the store, the new Giant To Go will offer customers a selection of high-quality fresh produce, meats, deli and bakery products. In addition, there will be a strong variety of healthier "take-home" options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the company reported.

Giant Food Stores LLC, one of the leading supermarket operations in the U.S., currently operates stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia under the names of Giant Food Stores, Martin's Food Markets and Giant To Go.
