Help Wanted at California Tesco Locations

WEST COVINA, Calif. -- On-site hiring has begun at the Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market location here, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported.

"We haven't announced how many employees we'll be hiring at each store, but we're putting a tent out in front of the stores where anyone who wants to work for us can come and interview," Roberto Munoz, a neighborhood affairs representative for Fresh & Easy, told the paper.

n addition, the Fresh & Easy here is inviting residents to nominate a local, nonprofit organization to receive a $1,000 donation through its Web site -- www.freshandeasy.com/goodneighbor -- where the resident must tell the company in 150 words or less why it should donate to the specific organization, the report stated.

The store's employees will vote on submissions received today through Oct. 17, and the winning organization will receive the donation as part of the market's opening day celebration.

On Fresh & Easy's Web site, online applications are also available for store-level positions including Customer Assistant and Team Leader.
The job description for its customer assistant position describes the role as "the face of your Fresh & Easy store." The position's main job will be "to ensure that customers are delighted and keep coming back," and includes education about the company's products and special offers "so you can keep your customers well informed," the Web site states.

In addition to presenting, rotating and date-checking food, the position will ensure that there are enough products stocked, that aisles are clear and the store is clean and the checkout allows customers to exit the store quickly, according to the site.

The site also states: "What's more, because we're always looking for ways to improve our service, you'll be encouraged to make recommendations. When you talk, we will listen."

Fresh & Easy is looking for people that will work well in a team, and understand the importance of offering a friendly shopping experience with the freshest foods, the site stated.

As CSNews Online has previously reported, Tesco has named locations for numerous future Fresh & Easy sites in Southern California, Las Vegas and Arizona, and plans to open its first wave of stores in November, with the goal of opening 100 stores by the end of 2008.

Fresh & Easy employees will work a minimum of 20 hours per week and have access to benefits including health care, bonuses and wages higher than minimum wage, the company previously stated.

However, there is still no word on union representation at Fresh & Easy stores.
